Title: Blue Thunder Dom Flange Intake?
Post by: price5113 on April 14, 2014, 03:43:53 PM
Anybody here got any feedback/experience with the B/T 'dominator' flange dual plane intake? Kicking around using one of these( If they are available) on a upcoming 428 build. Target is 11.5-12.1 comp. ratio, C7 heads, flat tappet solid cam. Thanks in advance, Steve

Looks like it worked well on that combo! Does the manifold seem to be stronger through the mid to top-end more so than the 'std' flange version? Do you keep these intakes in stock Barry?

C7 heads as in 67 GT heads?
Imho they are worst heads ever cast for the FE.
D2 truck heads are better.
The amount of grinding to get them to even come close to Cobra Jets is A LOT!
They will never catch up to Barry's head.
I would definitely up grade to a better head to mount a BT Domi intake and Giant sucker carb.
Just saying.

1967 C7 heads in all their glory.

What was wrong with the C7 head, and what makes the D2 casting any better? Curious.....I was under the impression that the C7 head was in the same group as the C8AE H & D2TE.....................

The C7 has the smallest ports of any FE casting.
Their first attempt at smog heads.
The C8 got a better chamber and bigger ports.
The D2 got a little better ports and induction hardened seats.

Bottom line if your going for big power the C7's are a poor starting choice.
C7's will take massive grinding and valve replacement with seats to even come close to needing a Domi intake and carb.
Then when your done spending a big wad on them they will still be C7's.
The least desirable FE head there is. jmo

What's really funny though is they came on some of the most sought after Fords they ever made.
Go figure.

Sought after cars like the GT500????? Great insight on these castings! I had no idea they were that bad.............Guess I better grab the C6AE-R castings out of the pile  and start there.

There's info in my book about the standard flange vs. the Dominator flange Blue Thunder intakes.  In a nutshell, the Dominator carb resulted in a power increase above 5400 RPM, but for some reason this fell off over 6700.  Not sure why that happened on my test, but on balance the Dominator version with the larger Dominator carb made a significant power gain.
