My original plan was to spend a stack on this old C5 case small in small out and turn it into a big/big with as much good stuff
as I could find.
Then I said to myself, self "How much does a Jerico actually cost?"
Well after calling Jerico I now know. A LOT!!!
In real Nova Scotia dollars it would be a tick over $7000.00, yes that is not a typo.
I started looking for a used Jerico. I finally found one that I felt good about and did an ebay deal which turned out good.
I got a good starting point to build a Jerico.
It was most likely a Roush built box as it was never sold new by Jerico. It's called a Revision Two.
I had to change the main shaft and tail because it was a stubby meaning 22" long.
The gears are mint some are new. It is a full caged roller bearing gear box with webbed dog rings.
Kind of a drag/road gear box. Gear ratio: 3.08, 1.93, 1.39, 1
It does have one EMCO gear, but not a big deal. EMCO is gear maker that made aftermarket Jerico gears. :o
I think they are now making there own gear boxes now. They look really expensive also.
I still have to do some shifter work and will be using a Junk pile Long V Gate with a bunch of shop made stuff.
I will most likely make my own front bearing retainer.
It will need a hybrid to fit my plan for the throw out bearing and clutch linkage.
Overall I'm happy with the deal. It was about half price of a new one and it basically is new. Just old new. ::)
The C5 box. still a great box, just not as tough as a Jerico.

The Jerico Exploded view. The Iron tail is a 427 Fairlane unit I've had for sometime.

I've had a few Toploaders apart over the years, but this by far the Koolest one I've done.
Still have a few things to do, but I think my plan has worked out ok.
Clutch is on order. Mcleod soft lock.
I can hardly wait to row the thing.

very cool build Howie , let us know how rolls thru the gears , and whats your rear gear ratio ? .. Bud
-
4.57 rear gear.
14.08 SLR
28 inch tire.
Bit of a stump puller. ::)
Hope to be testing it in May, but I'll settle for June.

That is a deep S L R , and i was worried about my 12.72 S L R lol Howie . tremec tko 500 , 3.27 1st and 3.89 with a 26.5 inch tall tire . Bud

What is your plan for a throw out bearing , clutch linkage Howie ?.. Bud
-
When I changed out the C6 years ago to the toplaoder I kinda made up some of the stuff for the clutch linkage.
I imagine I will have to make up some new stuff.
The Jerico has a chev input and out put spline so the throwout bearing retainer may need some custom fitting to use the Ford fork and bearing.
I won't have the disc and pressure plate for another week or so ( on back order ).
Once I have them in hand I will have a better idea as to how I will make it work.
Also going to a Quicktime SFI bell so that may throw a wrinkle in there too.
It's always the same deal when you use aftermarket everything. You Make It Fit. :D
The car still has the full drive train in it. We are welding in the roll bar and want the car at full weight.
Once that is done then we can change over to the new gears.
Might even slip a cam in there also. ::)

Howie i have a 68-70 big block fork , for the big input tranny and im not using it , it s in the garage . When i converted to the tremec i used a gt 390 fork for the size of the 1 1/8 26 spline input shaft of the tremec tko , and then used all the stock linkage ... but really thinking hydraulic throw out bearing now .. If you need the fork and a bottle of homade kahlua to make it all work together let me know lol .. Bud

Pushing ahead at a snails pace, but the big ticket items are here now.
I set up old A scratch for some mock up.

First part of the Quick Time. I ordered a new one. The box came and it was missing the fork brackets.
I'll have to get them shipped. ::)
The block plate needs the lower hole drilled.

The washers that bolt the can to the block don't fit. They need flats cut on them.

And a money shot. Looks pretty kool.

That does look cool, Howie! You should build a plexiglass transmission tunnel to show that thing off ;D
-
So I dusted off the home made Jerico.
Almost time to slip it in the hole.
I had two options for the bearing. Make one. Or sleeve the small retainer.
I went with a med press of about 3/4 of a thou. Should stick.
You could call it lazy. ::)

Spent most of the day machining a new clutch fork pusher rod.
Making the adjustable tube.
