Title: Water pump question
Post by: r-ceram2 on March 12, 2014, 12:06:17 PM
Building an FE to go in a 66 Fairlane, should be about 700+ Hp at the flywheel, what is the best option for a water pump?I would like to go electric if they flow enough for this application. Thanks for any help.

You could get one of Jay's adapter kits to use a CVR 55 GPM pump if you plan to drive the car on the street.  Here's a thread about it:

If it's strictly a race car, a regular 35-40 GPM unit from CSR or Meziere should work OK.

Jay has a set of water pump adaptors to mount a monster electric pump. The adaptors also can be drilled to use stock brakes as an option. They are located in the vendor section.

Would a regular Edelbrock pump not be up to the task? I plan on taking it to the track 3-4 times a year and driving it on the street, but not much, maybe 500 miles a year.

The Edelbrock pump should work fine.  You can even get a Moroso water pump drive kit to run that pump for drag strip use but I don't know if it would work too well for street use though.

I think there was some discussion as to that the mechanical pumps overheated at lower speeds and running with the hood up became necessary. At 700 hp , which is my target also I do not want to chance it so when I get my manifold adaptor I am getting the pump mounts also.
