Title: 1965 Mercury Park Lane "Super Marauder" Convertible 428
Post by: 428Marauder on February 03, 2014, 10:13:41 PM
This car is so rare, it never even existed until I made it. I saw one 1965 PL hardtop that someone put a 428 in, and as far as I know, that's the only 65 428 that exists, as the 428 wasn't available in 65.

Originally a Z code 390 car.

Been a lot of work, car has come a long way in 4 years ... but it still has a ways to go.

Looks good 8)!  You mentioned rust but the before photo of the trunk doesn't look that bad to me, it seems you've dealt well with the issue.  Here in Erie if you open the trunk of a '65 anything that's from around here you're lookin' at the ground :), so it's a matter of perspective.

Well I'm in Arizona and this car came from WA state so ... it's rusty by Arizona standards.

Good news though ... I hit a jackpot at the casino today. She's getting painted soon.

Here's the big question ... I think I already know the answer:

A. Paint car original color (rare Tiffany Blue, which is like a flat powder blue)
B. Paint car along the lines of the original color, but updated (metal flake, clear coat, etc)
C. Paint car black.

Now, I love the way this car looks in black. Classic look for a Lincoln, black on black with the dark blue interior would be nice. But, it's this rare color code ... thing is, I hate powder blue. So, much as I hate to do it ... I'm thinking like a silvery blue, with clear coat. Pretty much the original color, but more shiny. Fine metallic. It already doesn't have the right motor in it. It's a mild custom.

Paint the car the colour you want it in.
Its not like this car is on its way to
a 100%factory restoration
Then What differense does it make if you not
paint it as the paint code says
And a silvery blue is still not after the paint code
Just my opinion

I'm with HEO, paint the car whatever color you like (as long as it's black ::).  OK, so I'm a bit biased in that regard.  It seems to me that you haven't taken the "factory" resto approach and I'd bet most of us here would agree with personalizing your ride.  The 428 was a strong move in that department.

Black. All day. I'd take a clean restomod over a concourse restoration any day.  I'll betcha any money you build it like YOU want it and you'll enjoy it more then in turn DRIVE it more. Jmo.
