Title: Pump Builder ( Doug) Rocker shaft end stands and supports with or w/o drip trays

I was curious if those running the rocker shaft end supports and end stands used the drip trays, or went without them. These are going on a 428. I have a set of the early and late style trays here and either style would require modification for use, if they are necessary.

I am still in mockup. If your using Egelbrock heads the finger type trays will not fit. This is what I have done so far, and what I still have to deal with. Is it worth it? I think they will be helpfull with oil return flow. ww

I don't usually use the drip trays with aftermarket rocker assemblies, because they typically have to be cut up to fit.  However, if you go without the drip trays, be sure to run restrictors in the oiling passages in the heads.  If you don't do that, you will end up with a bunch of oil in the valve covers and not very much in the oil pan.  The drip trays work really well at funneling the oil back to the valley area and back to the pan, so if you don't use restrictors, make sure to use the drip trays.

I run them in the past with end stands and roller rockers.

I'd use them. I'm using Doug's end stands with later style drip tins and iron heads with oil restrictors. I had to trim the ends of the tins to fit. The tins being under my stands also helped with my bogus rocker arm geometry.

Hmmmm....I'm using Doug's end stands with my Harland Sharp street rocker setup on iron CJ heads and I'm pretty sure the drip trays (late style) went right in without any modifications.

Same here, I used Harland Sharp rockers with factory Medium Riser middle stands and end stands that I picked up at a swap meet on my MR heads. Not even sure whos end stands they are, but most of them are pretty similar. I used the later tins with no problems, but I had to slightly tweak the ends. Not much though. Like Jay said, they really help divert oil back down the lifter galley instead of trying to funnel it all back down the end drains.

Thank you gentlemen for the replies. I bought a set of the HIPO drip trays before I decided to go end stands because of several pictures of shaft breakage with spring pressures in the 400lb range. I restricted the orifice to .090, which seems to work well with the HP-HV oil pump.

Maybe you can see the early tins I used. Flattened out the ends and they work fine.
