Title: Edelbrock streetmaster vs Blue thunder dual plane
Post by: bn69stang on January 13, 2014, 07:07:22 PM
LETS DEBATE ... 434 inch 428 cj short block , stock compression , edelbrock heads out of the box , comp xe 274 h cam , fpa header s , msd distributor and box , holley 750 or 850 double pumper s , tremec tko , 3.70 with a locker .. It s all in a 69 mach 1 , and as i ve posted before im at 5500 ft elevation so looking for most i can squeeze out of this to the 6000 rpm range , dont want to twist it more because of the stock rods .. I have both intakes , and the street master single plane has never been touched so question was modify it and run it or use the blue thunder ? looking for best  tq and hp in the 2500-5500 range .. Bud

I think its a toss-up; those manifolds are going to be really close on that engine.  The engine looks very similar to the 410 HP 428CJ that I used as one of the dyno mules for my book.  The Blue Thunder intake will probably give you a little more low end grunt than the Streetmaster, and the Streetmaster will give you a little more top end.  But again, they will be very close.  They are both excellent intakes for that engine.

Depends on the car too....
If it were a pre-64 Galaxie, I'd want to go with the Blue Thunder just on account of appearance.

Are you suggesting that my '65 Galaxie (well - Custom actually) is so ugly as to make that factor in the decision (looks) irrelevant?

Sorry - couldn't help myself - it is the first thing that came to mind... :P

There is a different look between a pre64 and a 65 and up.  The 65's and newer have a different look and feel to them.  More modern in design.

Sorry Drew... that was the dry sense of humor that my wife tells me will get me in trouble... :-)

That works! I'm a roller kind of guy myself.... Both should be good for that cam. JMHO

Hi Bud
You mentioned  your home altitude at 5000 ft plus.  Are you in Denver area? If so call Walt and Chip Hane at EPS automotive  in Evergreen Co.  They have the most sophisticated dyno  setup ever.  They are all ford guys to boot.  Dyno both intakes and see how they both shake out.
all the best
Larry
