Title: Width of an FE rod bearing?
Post by: Hemi Joel on December 12, 2013, 07:12:53 PM
Does anyone know, or possible have one laying around that they could measure? I'm looking for the width of a FE rod bearing insert.

My Duesenberg has babbit bearing material spin cast into the rods, and after 84 years, it needs replacment.  Since the FE and the duesey both have a 2-7/16 rod journal, I'm thinking of using a pair of FE bearings side by side in a custom aluminum rod. I have read, but confirmed, that the big end is about 1.71" wide.
Thanks, Joel

I just happened to have a Clevite rod bearing in front of me while taking some measurements on the new block with my vernier calipers. Timing  ;)

My measurement came out at .749 for width of one stock width rod bearing. Remember though, the FE rod bearing is notoriously thinner than the rod itself. Something that no bearing maker seems to grasp and be able to remedy  >:(
