Anyone seen the posts on 54 about new imported fe blocks and heads from south Korea? Also new USA made blocks?

Yes. 2014 should be a banner year for guys with money who want to build
high end big inch FE`s. Wish I was one of them.

The new USA made blocks are the latest incarnation of Genesis blocks, from what I understand. The Korean stuff looks nice, in the pictures anyway. Are they available for sale now?

Haven't heard anything about sale date. Hopefully they will be fairly priced with strength improvements. Sure would be nice having something that would take a couple stages of nos. Too scared to split my old center oiler.

Barry just posted details on the US blocks on the other site, and they will be ready to ship next week. $3600 for iron, and $4600 for aluminum. Both are upgraded from the previous versions of the Genesis blocks.

$3600 for a new iron block I don't think is to bad considering what some are asking for old beat up
ones. I'm sure it will still need some machine work to make it ready to run but it will be a tough block.
Be nice if they were just a little cheaper so more guys could afford them.
Makes me feel good about being able to grab a std bore side oiler block for 3 K last week.
Be curious to see what the other blocks and heads go for.
None of this stuff is cheap. >:(

Got my name on one of the new iron blocks. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on it within a week or two. Neat story about who and how they came about. I'm starting to gather pieces for my next build.

I'd like to know how much these new blocks weigh compared to Ford production blocks.

I have a spare standard bore sideoiler block, so I was planning on making comparisons between the two. My guess is it's fairly substantial with extra valley webbing, solid caps, siamesed cylinders, thicker deck etc. Of course it can easily be offset with aluminum heads, intake and water pump....at least compared to stock stuff. But I guess the 427 came with aluminum intakes, so not so much there.

Somewhere I read that the Genesis blocks were about 20 pounds heavier than the factory sideoiler blocks...

My "old" ::) Genesis iron weighs 250lbs. It was one of the last Genesis's made.
A new Sideoiler Garage block will probably be that or a tad more if they put even more thickness in.

I always thought the Genesis was about 40+ pounds heavier, but maybe it is more than that. I have never weighed one and wish I would have when I had the chance. They are definitely heavy to move around by hand! I am also unsure the exact weight of a FORD 427 block is. I have heard 210 and I think Roger Gordon (take that for what it is worth...) on the FE forum said recently that they were 195 pounds. I have a factory block... but I added billet caps and filled it with "grout/epoxy/concrete" whatever you want to call it... (I think it is actually a metallic aggregate grout). So it is heavier than stock or in-between the two.
Anyone weigh each with similar bores? I heard one time that the A460 block, that when bored from as delivered 4.390 to 4.600 ( a bunch of guys do right off the bat for 598 CI), it rduces the weight by almost 50 pounds, just out of the cylinders! Not sure if that is fact or fiction...

On the Robert Pond web site, he list his aluminum block as 120 lbs, his iron block as 245 lbs and the original 427 FE iron block as 195 lbs

The Pond block will weigh considerably less once the bores are finished.
Unlike the Genesis blocks, they come with very small bores so the you can finish bore them yourself.
It's more of a racer's block.
I was told you could lose 10lbs or more once the bores were finished.

Fiction. I also saw a thread over their (460/overbore) long ago but somebody did the math and de-bunked it. IIRC it was a tad more than 20 lbs. removed (of course it depends on how much was removed and I don't remember the overbore amount).
But, it is true that some die-hard racers also mill off a ton of cast iron from the outside of the blocks for more weight savings. Having seen the mass of these titanic blocks, a big overbore and external machining could easily drop 50 or more pounds!

anyone seen the block aluminum from side oiler garage yet, compared to a pond any differences, I saw a bbm block next to a pond both very nice, I would rather just keep all the dollars with a usa block...

I was looking at the bbm for a truck build, but with side oiler and pond usa made ill keep my money with them, the bbm block is very nice though...

The iron Sideoiler Garage block weighed 250lbs. The one I got looked very nice but had a serious casting issue with the oil port going from the pump to filter adapter. I wasn't told about it until I picked it up (wasn't real happy about that). I don't know if that's been corrected or not, so I'd get some sort of guarantee before shelling out the money for one. I also never received the screw in core plugs that were supposed to come with the block. That's fairly minor, but nonetheless, they were supposed to come with the block. I posted a thread with lots of pictures about a year ago. The block is very stout.

I heard they were a little ruff, seems the early runs might have some issues...
