Hey everybody im 15 my name is Daniel ,and im pretty new at this but I enjoy the sport of drag racing and me and my dad decided to start a project for my first car. My 68 Torino started out as a 66 Fairlane but sadly it burned down from a fire that started in my nieghbors yard and ended up in ours. But a local radio personality heard about it and came to the rescue and sold us his Torino. The Torino is a GT Fastback 390 4 speed its a non-consoul car that came optioned with head rests. We've bought a black apolstry kit and are still deciding what to paint it. Motor upgrades includes a 428 with edelbrock heads ported, polished and flowded by SAM's it also has a Herburt Cam with 680 lift and were inlined for one of Jay Brown's 351c intake adaptor. The headers are 2 1/8" hooker super comps. Comments and questions are welcome. Planing on going to drag week hope to see u guys there.

My burnt down 66 Fairlane

Hi Daniel, that’s too bad about the ’66, but a really neat story about how the Torino came to you. It’s really great to hear about someone your age with interest in these cars. I’ve earned a living in one fashion or another from vehicle repair since I was 14 years old. I’m a lot older that that now. Nothing wrong with getting new blood interested in this old iron. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum, Daniel. '68 GT Torinos are cool! Would love to see one competing at Drag Week...
-
The start
-
Now there is a project I can get behind. Welcome. Love those 68/69 Torinos.
-
Got my Harmanic balancer (SFI certified), and a 3.5 hp starter.
-
Centerline Auto drag on it
That was THE rims to have
when i was your age
I still like them
I had a Black 66 Fairlane XL with centerlines
and a 390 +Toploader in the 80s
-
Hate seeing that burnt 66. Good luck with the new project.
-
Its a std. bore 428, probe flat tops, scat rods, and scat crank. Were going to close up the bottom with a HV oil pump and factory deep sump oil pan.
-
Some more family cars.
-
Looks like you were raised right!!!
-
Definitely have the support and that's awesome.
-
We got the cam, and were just about ready to fire it up. Hey Jay if you dont mind hurry up on intake adapter #29 we will be in despret need of it soon.
-
I'm going as fast as I can, buddy ;)
-
Seriously Jay! Whats the holdup ;)
CjTorino:
Awesome build. You should be thanking your dad everyday for being awesome.
When I was your age I had $300 for a 4door Oldsmobile Gutless Supreme.... It sucked.
Only real benefit was that it was like driving 2 couches down the road, I also installed a love seat in the trunk. But this is a family forum and I shouldn't talk about what I was doing at your age.
Only one query. Are those Harland Sharp or Pro-Comp rockers? That is a big cam for iffy valve train parts. Otherwise, that is going to be a very fast car. Good Luck!
-
Yes they are pro comp rocker arms. We had an extra set laying around that a customer decided not to use, we have used 25-30 sets without failure. We can always upgrade if we have to. Its really not much of a cam at all, we had gas mileage in mine.
-
We got back to work put the timing chain and timing cover on, and we put the cam in with 6.80 lift. We measured the push rods and got them in today. If I don't get in the intake adapter soon it looks like we'll have to use the 3 duece intake.
-
We installed new control arms and shocks for the front and rear end.
-
It's been a while since I updated our progress on the Torino. After getting the front suspension rebuilt we had a limited time window on the paint booth. We know we're doing this out of order but the budget required we paint now while we could get it done for free. We are still on schedule to be ready for drag week.

It is with a heavy heart that I, Daniels father, inform the forum that Daniel, a true FE enthusiast , was killed in a motorcycle accident on Feb. 15th. He just turned 19 on Feb 2nd. He got to take his Torino to Drag Week 2016. He got to meet Jay and Doug while participating during the week. Jay even posted a picture of us changing the lifters in his motor at Indy. I will be taking his Torino to Drag Week this year. His mother will meet us at most of the tracks to watch. We got registered Saturday morning and will certainly be there. He loved keeping up with the people on this forum, talked about the dreams he had for his Torino.

Shocking and saddening news. I had been looking forward to seeing you and Daniel at Drag Week again this year. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for this terrible loss, and I'm sure the rest of the forum grieves with you. Jim, I think it is a fitting tribute to your son that you are taking his car back to the event in his memory. See you in September - Jay

So sad to hear....May God Bless your family and guide you through this loss. Good Luck in Drag Week as well......Al

I normally don't respond to these tributes on HAMB and they get lengthy and way overdone. But here I understand.
I've kind of always have had that dark feeling in my heart -- my son, Noel now 40, wouldn't make it. Somehow he has.
So very sorry for your loss.
Wish you strength and fortitude in the upcoming times in your family's life.

My heart goes out to your family. I don't want to imagine the pain you are going through. Your family will be in my prayers.
-
God bless you and your family. I don't know what more to say as a dad myself, but I am happy you shared in such a tough time. I didn't know him, but scrolling back and then seeing your update, clearly your family is made of the right stuff.
I hope to meet you someday to hear about him
-
I am very saddened to hear this, Jim. You have my heartfelt condolences. It was truly a pleasure to meet you and your son during Drag Week. I got a huge kick out of him and his ambition for the car and the fun that you guys were having.
Guys, I have to say, Daniel was a real treat to meet. We chatted every day through Drag Week and even parked beside each other on the final day. When I saw his blue Torino sitting alone, I had to park with him to show off some of the Ford FE crowd :) I got a kick out of watching him work on the car and looked forward to his return to the pits after each run. To see a younger fellow have such fun with an obvious passion for the car, an old FE powered car, well, it just made my whole week. It also gave me a little hope that there were still some young guys who liked the old iron. Daniel and his Dad were all smiles, all week, as far as I saw. They were exactly the reasons I wanted to participate in Drag Week.

I hated reading this too , so sorry for your loss .....
