Looking at a set of Edelbrock 60069 heads a FE Forum member has for sale. This came up suddenly so I'm cramming as I have not done my homework. My engine is a .030 over 427 with solid roller cam, tunnel wedge 2-4V, 4.25 Scat crank. I do not have the 6.700 rods or pistons yet. Are the 60069 heads good for something like this? Below is the info from Edelbrock and the 60089's seem to be labelled for 427's. I would not plan on running the 60069's as the yare. Probably head prep by Survival and bigger valves? My motive is the current asking price of the heads for sale. Or would I be better off getting the 60089 bare heads?

The 390-428 60069 Ed heads have a smaller and better chamber than the Edelbrock 427 heads if I recall correctly, and they also have the four bolt pattern around the exhaust port, so those are the ones to have. With the cubes you will be running I would definitely upgrade to larger valves and get some porting work done.

Doug,
For what you're doing, you'll definately want larger valves and springs matched to your camshaft needs. On the complete Ed heads you'll be pulling out the springs, valves, retainers, and locks.
You'd probably be money well ahead to get bare heads, or heads built for your application. Barry's FElony heads come to mind, as they flow better, have the large valves already, and you can spec the springs you want.
I have a set of ported 60069s on my street car and wish I could go back and update with larger valves and update the ports to match, but I've sunk a bunch of money in the heads already.
