Title: remote mount for oil pressure sending unit
Post by: c9zx on October 08, 2026, 12:52:28 PM
Has someone come up with a good way to remote mount an electrical oil pressure sending unit? The sender will not fit on top of the oil filter adapter. Thanks Chuck

On my Galaxie, I wanted to add a mechanical gauge while still keeping my low pressure light.  I screwed a brass tee into the oil filter adapter, with the electrical switch and gauge screwed into that, more or less horizontally.  Don't know if that is something that will work for you.

I assume this is for your Boss 302, if so you need one of these;

Sorry, I didn't say what car it is for, the 1966 Cyclone GT. The Boss 302 Cougar is using the factory relocation parts with Auto Meter sender to a real gauge. I'm not trying to keep the idiot light. I've had too many failures with 1/8" copper or plastic lines. I may try using CuNi brake line tubing and some sort of home made bracket. That corner of the engine is very busy with power steering. Please keep the input coming. Chuck

Doesn't really apply to your electric sender and gauge... but...

I am using -4 AN ptfe hose and appropriate fittings to plumb the mechanical oil gauge in my FE Galaxie.

Using a bulkhead fitting to pass thru the firewall.

Ton of options for AN fittings.
Maybe you could run a AN line to a small block/manifold and attach the sender there.

I've had my share of mechanical oil gauges using the supplied plastic line or soft copper line and never had any nasty failures.
But I did inspect those line fairly often.
If the line started to look weak or compromised in some way, I was on it.

My thinking now is the ptfe line should pretty much last forever, as long as I run it right...
ie: clamped down and no chafing anywhere.

More expensive to do it this way but should be maintenance free.

What sender are you using?  I have room for a T with the idiot light sender up top and the Autometer gauge sender sticking out sideways, even though it is tight in that area.  I don't have a mechanical fuel pump anymore, but that setup fit when I did, just had the thing pointed in a different direction....
