Title: Jay in TGFEIC how did you jet/rod the Ed 2x4v 1405 carbs?
Post by: WerbyFord on September 19, 2013, 07:14:10 AM
I'm setting up a pair of 1405s on a Ford 2x4v LoRiser, 270s cam.
Wondering what jets/rods you ended up with in your TGFEIC dyno testing & how you got there, I cant find it in the book.
Big reason- Edelbrock advises jetting them pretty lean for their 2x4v air gap intake.
Stock 1405 per Edel
100 pri
70x47 rods
95 sec

1405 when used on AirGap 2x4v
100 pri
73x52 rods
77 sec
That is A LOT leaner as you can see. I talked to Ed tech line and they confirmed this, but said its engine dependent. So I thought I'd see what you saw on the dyno.

Do the 2x4v Holleys like to "go lean" vs single 4v jets?

Werby, I just ran the stock jetting.  All the A/F numbers looked great with the stock jets in the carbs, so there was no reason to change.  I'm kind of surprised Edelbrock suggesting leaning them out; maybe for fuel economy or something?  My A/F numbers with those carbs were right on the money between 12.5:1 and 13.0:1.

Werby, I loaned the two Edelbrocks to Jay for his test.. I had previously had them on a 433 inch Lincoln with 2x4 and tuned them during a dyno  session. I did change the jetting from stock. I will have to go back and look to see what the current jets and rods are.. It was not a big change  those carbs worked very well

Werby, I pulled my plugs before tearing my engine apart and it was way lean. I'll be going atleast two steps richer when it goes back together.

I ended up with #89 jets in the secondaries instead of the #95s that came in there.
Tried #83 but it started getting slower.
Even at that, the AFB's are over a carlength slower than the twin Holleys and I didnt even fiddle with jetting on the Holleys.
Of course, the Holleys suck major gas, one wanted a new needle&seat, the other got dirt in it and flooded, and one of em started peeing. But they run good.

interesting. What manifold is this on?

Did you bolt on the edelbrocks on out of the box(with jetting changes of course)? or rebuilds? It took me all day to get mine exactley mirrored to each other, and then a good while fiddling with the uni-sync to get the idle balanced(I run 1:1 linkage). But once I did I have been very happy with them. Tons more reliable than my single holley was.

I dont have a way to compare to holleys as I cant fit them on my manifold, but my car is much faster with the twin edelbrocks vs the single holley.
