Title: 65-66 427 2X4 intake
Post by: 482supersnake on June 29, 2026, 09:59:11 AM
Does the 65-66 427 2x4 intake manifold have the big thermostat housing?

I’m pretty sure it does take the large thermostat. A friend had one of those ‘65-‘66 2-4 bbl Medium Riser intakes without the engineering numbers, and I thought I might have a picture, but haven’t found it yet. But Ford didn’t even have a FE thermostat housing for the small thermostat yet in ‘65, that didn’t start getting phased in until during the ‘67 model year.

I think it’s probably the same for both, but there was also ‘65 427 Low Riser 2-4 bbl intake manifold, so you may want to specify which one if you think it matters.

I ordered a '67 R-code Fairlane 2dr in late Dec. '66 that wasn't built until mid-May '67 and, even then, it was fitted with a manifold requiring the larger diameter thermostat.

I picked an intake up the other day from a guy who's had it on his shelf since 1991. No engineering number. It's a medium riser and the theromosat opening is 2.20"
