Title: cam bearings
Post by: djburton on February 06, 2026, 11:08:30 AM
Installing cam bearings. New front bearing has a notch perpendicular to the bearing, from one hole to the outer edge. Inward or toward cam thrust? In case anyone's interested, 74 block, original bearings, 2 thru 5 oil holes at 2 o'clock or 8 with the block upside down.

Outward towards cam thrust plate.  That's what that little slot does, it oils the thrust plate/timing set thrust.

Yep, and both holes aligned...and make sure bolt doesn't block distributor feed when you put the thrust plate on

Thanks, gentlemen! I kinda knew that but no slot on original bearing so wanted to be sure. Original plate and screws so should be ok on distributor feed.
