Scored a Mirror 105 engine. put on engine stand, knocked the engine down to just bare block. put it in my truck to take to engine shop and sometihing fell as I was unbolting the block from the stand. picked it up and it was a piece of the block where the starter bolts up. Found someone who said they could repair the block for $500.00. Anyone ever have to repair this typoe of damage? anyone run the engine without repairing this? bolt starter to bell housing without block support?

That was a common repair in the 60's and 70's and it looks like the price for repair is about the same.I had several done in that time frame and never had a problem with them.

Yes, that would fall under the "very repairable" heading. :)
But I gotta say, though that actually is a charge that 'should' be levied considering what actually is involved for a truly "proper" repair, it's just that I've gotta up my prices for work done! ::)

That's the sort of thing that would be a perfect brazing candidate.
