Hello, would a good option if my spacers are missing would be to measure each spot the spacer would go and have spacers machined for the next larger size for an interference fit. Ford only had 3 spacer sizes, .3735, .375 & .3765. For instance, if space measured .370" just install spacer measuring (original Ford size) .375 etc.? Isn't that how the factory would have done it? And if one space is bigger that the largest spacer Ford provided than that spacer simply would not be an "interference" fit? Then install a crank and feel how it spins? If there was a problem I would think you would "feel" it while turning by hand.

On most of the blocks I've messed with, some of the spacers fit tight, others are loose.
If I were in your spot, I'd make spacers with an interference on both sides, then have the block align-honed. It's been a while since I've checked bearing clearances with and without the cross bolts on the same engine, but if I remember correctly, the cross bolts do change the clearances a little. I'd want the block to be honed with the way it's gonna be ran.

100% agree with this.
We have made several over the years. Target +/-.001" push fit - just tight enough to need a light tap to get into position. Then line hone.
IIRC it gets an additional .0003-.0005" main clearance by installing and torquing the cross bolts.

Thank you for your reply's, but as I described if crank turns freely would that be an indication that it is fine and not need a trip to the machine shop?

Absolutely not. It’s unlikely the mains are parallel and clearances are right on an old block and even more unlikely with different spacers
Align hone is cheap money for good bearing longevity
