Title: cometic MLS
Post by: allrightmike on December 21, 2024, 10:08:55 AM
Question, do the quoted bore sizes for various head gasket applications (Comedic specifically) refer to the engine bore size or do they refer to the actual diameter on the gasket? Info that I have seen seems murky. My application is a .040 over 427 FE .030 compressed thickness. As these are a bit pricey I would prefer to order the correct gaskets the first time. Any info appreciated.

It’s gasket bore.

although they aren't always exactly round. These are the standard shape you get. I had to specify round when I reordered. Jim

...and I have seen cases where the cutout (ostensibly for valve reliefs) has gone into the critical fire ring emboss bead, and where the emboss bead around coolant passages dropped over the actual coolant hole in the casting.  They are nice parts that can work well, but they do require inspection before installation.
