Actually just a clean up. I'm dropping a 390 in a '78 F150 and plan to use this Duraspark electronic distributor. I have the gear and lower collar off. Should the shaft push out the top? There is some resistance. Not sure if gunk build up or something else. I don't want to force it and break or bend anything. Does the reluctor just press off an on? How do you know how far the reluctor goes on the shaft at reassembly? Are there any good exploded diagrams available?
thanks,

Yes the shaft just slides out after removing the gear and collar. And "gunk" can make this difficult. You can use a press to get it most of the way out and it helps if you twist and pull at the same time. There is a clip at the top of the shaft that retains the reluctor. Fiddly to remove.
