Title: 351C Tunnel Ram ID?
Post by: bulletpruf on March 01, 2024, 09:22:29 PM
Anyone know anything about 351C tunnel rams?  Traded a guy some '68 GTO parts for it a few minutes ago.  He claimed it was for a 351C, but the numbers aren't legible.  Can anyone help with ID?  Also, if you guess on value, I'm all ears.  My people are FE and Windsor people, so I'm going to send it down the road.

Thanks,

Scott

That's a Weiand 1994 with a single 4 top.  I've never seen one of those tops, I think they only come with the dual four barrel tops now.  Lots of FE guys will use something like that with my FE to 351C intake adapters.

Thanks, Jay.  That's why I posted in the main forum; I was familiar with your adapters.

I'll list it in the classifieds.

Personally, I like tunnel-rams; back in the '70's had one on my BOSS302 with two 660's (of course  ::)), and we generally attributed the popularity of the single four tops to the boat crowd; but I don't recommend the single four tops mounted on them.  The problem is that fuel distribution will be horrible, with the center four cylinders receiving excessive sums and the front and back end cylinders will operate at significantly reduced quantities!   ;)

A couple of efforts have been executed over the decades in an effort to reduce this effect, mostly by raising the carburetor upward over a larger upper plenum and with a downward slopping top profile leading to the ends, but they still are only somewhat improved in this sense, but then open up other possible negative results.

This intake as presented by the O.P. is "cool old stuff" and my intention here is not to disparage his piece, I'm just pointing out concerns that one might in the future experience in it's usage; but be aware that most any, particularly the older it might be, we can now readily judge their faults, as none upon examination will prove "prefect", and it is just, as it was, back then.    :)

What Jay said - I have one with a double top.  Single top is "what a waste of time" IMHO LOL.  I'd value the base at maybe $200 - personally, If I bought it I'd put the top in the attic where I'd forget about it.

Here's mine in it's natural setting with a couple of 600s on top.

Or, throw the top away and put a pair of Dominators on it.

That gets people's attention.  8) ;D  It's like fuel injection, without the injection.

Just don't forget, in most installation intentions your going to need a pair of "tin-snips" too!   ::)
