Yes

yes and they always had the good ratios. When looking for a rear at the junk yards, I always looked under the hood first.

Look closely. I don't know 1960 fords, but Ford usually put a light duty rear axle behind cylinder engines.

I don't think they had 9" rears in any 6 cylinder 1960 Fairlane.

The 1960 Fairlane is a full size car.

All full sized Ford cars, from 1957, thru the mid 60s, had 9@ rear ends, regardless of what engine it came with. I believe the 9 3/8" rear end came out in some vehicles in 1966, and the 8 1/2" integral shortly afterwards, but even still most had a 9". The intermediate unibody Fairlanes came out in 1962, but prior to that, all Fairlanes were full sized, full frame cars. My 59 parts car was a 6 cylinder, 3 speed manual, and it came with a 9" with 3.70 gears.

My reason for saying to look is due to a 67 Custom 4 door I had. It was a 289 2V car with a automatic. The rear in it was a integral carrier axle. I had a 61 Ranch Wagon in High School. But never checked what axle was under it.
