Title: May have forgot something on engine build.
Post by: gregaba on December 05, 2023, 10:52:06 AM
I had my exhaust valves in my heads replaced to get rid of the sodium filled ones.
Edelbrock 427 heads with 2.20-1.73 sizes.
I ordered a new Comp Cams burret kit to cc my heads because the cheap plastic one I had I didn't trust. The new one came in yesterday.
While looking at the heads I started to wonder if I was going to have to notch my cly. walls for the 2.20 intakes to clear.
I have a 428-0.30 over and really hope I don't have to clearance the valve's as I have the short block buttoned up.
I know I will find out when I get the heads on but was wondering if anyone has this combo and if you had to notch the cly. for clearance.

I’m confused, who put sodium filled exhaust valves in your Edlebrock heads?

i bought these used and when I first tore them down I dropped a valve on the floor.
The head broke off and I had a mini fireworks display.
I have to assume the previous had installed them.

If you have the MR valve spacing of 2.100, you should have at least .075 clearance on the intake but, it's the exhaust that you'll need to watch, it will only have .010-.015.

Edelbrock heads with a 2.200 intake will clear the cylinders on a 428 with no issue

That is real good news. I had all ready completed my short block and didn't want to have to tear it down and redo it.
I will still check but I think I can rest easy now.
