How much oil will a 5 quart mid-60's FE (baffled) oil pan hold. I put almost a quart of oil in my filter before I installed it. Shouldn't the pan ( with two thick gaskets and a heavy windage tray) space it down far enough to put 5 quarts in the pan also without causing problems. I put 6 quarts in it and it brought it up to the original stick fill level. I plan on racing it at the meltdown drags next weekend. That's why I'm asking. Thanks Ps. I had to modify what I said, it took 6 quarts in all (counting the filter) to bring it to the full mark.

I would try to fit an extra quart if it was me. 6 would better then 5 in the pan. FE's are known to starve out the rear rods. And your oil pickup is now up higher off the bottom of the pan. Unless you added some length to the oil pickup. Not uncommon in the FE world to add one more qrt to make it a total of 6 qrts in the pan. Play it safe when drag racing

The only standard I've got is a drag race I had with my buddies Bullett Mustang. I was on 215 70 15 tires and he was ahead of me by a half car length when I had to let up because of traffic. The Bullett Mustang right out of the box is a 13.7 car I've read. Besides that, I've got hoosier tires on it now that made my car .8 sec quicker through the quarter with the other motor I had. I'm expecting the high 13's. It would surprise me if it doesn't go that fast. I'm still only shifting at 4500 though. The aren't paying me enough to push it to the limit.

That's fast for a fully dressed door slammer, no shame there....Jon
