Title: 63 or 64 Galaxie and TW or MR hood clearance
Post by: My427stang on December 01, 2023, 08:49:32 AM
Galaxie guys, can you fit a TW or MR intake under a stock 63/64 Gal hood.  Intent would likely be 1/4 inch phenolic w/Holleys, and some sort of decent air filters

Thanks!

Ross, I think you will find that wherever a CJ/MR/BT/Sidewinder 4V will fit, the TW/MR8V/DoveTW will fit even better.  The only issue is the length of the airfilter lid and the ribs of the underside of the hood.  The TW and 8V MR/BTs are actually .100" shorter than the CJ/BT/SW/MR4V.  Check out Jay's book for comparisons.  Joe-JDC

Thanks Joe, Drew P chimed in by text too, and it looks like a go, but sort of unhappy with the air filter options.

May look into machining the carb pads to buy back a little on the TFS TW and running a minimal phenolic spacer to try to get an oval air cleaner with some height.  Also, I did a Mustang a while back and we found some tall filter elements for the Stelling style chrome individual filters.  It was only a 550 HP version, this one will be more, but those did well on the dyno and would not reach forward as far, I'll need to do some math to see surface area, even taller, at 8 inches,  they may be small for a big one like this

Customer has two requirements for a 485 inch hyd roller motor, 1 - fit under the hood, and 2 - pump gas. #2 is easy, needed to check with others to make sure I didn't screw up #1  ;D
