Title: In need of aftermarket 427 block
Post by: rj4004 on September 06, 2023, 03:26:53 PM
Wanting to build a A/SA NHRA Stocker before I get too old and in search of a block.

Any help is appreciated.  Turning 80 next year and kinda in a hurry. LOL

Thanks

Talk to Chris at Robert Pond motorsports.

Best advice right there. Ponds are quality blocks. Don't rely on the website showing if they have them. Just give em a call.

Aluminum is not a legal piece, but appreciate your help.
Have already talked to Chris and he has a couple of blocks, one small bore (4.100 and can go to 4.280) and a big bore (4.300 that is too large),
NHRA only allows .080 over Std. So doesn’t leave much room.

No heads at this time.  Doug at BBM told me March 2024? For blocks.

Appreciate your help

So .280 isn't big enough but .300 is to big ???

Sorry Fekbmax, both would work but I would rather find a 4.233-4.250 block,  than spend $6000.00(w/shipping) on a block that I would have to bore and hone to 4.250 or so and then be limited by the 4.280 max bore.
The 4.300 block would only allow for .013 or so of rehone/mishaps, to maintain the .080 overbore allowance by NHRA.  4.233 std bore + .080= 4.313  Both would work of course, but I would rather find a block that did not require added expense/labor.
I hope you understand.

I build my own motors, but I do agree with you on the “time” issue.

Thanks

I paid for a Sideoiler Garage block a couple of years ago that never got supplied. If you can get it out of Tim mcLoughlin, you are welcome to it!

I was just on FB Ford FE Engine enthusiasts and a guy has a new 427 block and other parts in wrappers for sale.
Really high price but when you have the only one...

virgin block, never machined

Pay no mind to the connecting rod protruding from the side of the block.   ;)
