I am building a C6 (sorry 385 series) and I found my case had some pitting where that big piston in the rear of the transmission goes. A buddy of mine gave me a case he had laying around that was in a race car at one time. For whatever reason (probably cooling) a previous owner had milled off part of the bottom of the case. It will be going in a fairly heavy street driven vehicle so I wondering if that would affect the integrity of the bellhousing and I am also concerned about the flex plate and torque converter being exposed. They did a good job with nice rounded corners so no sharp edges. What do you guys think? Thanks!

maybe they did that to lower the car as well.one mustang i had with fe big block and c6,had big deep gouges on the bottom of the bell on it,and car 14 factory tires/wheels,so it sat pretty low.
in any case,if it was for 500 hp or more drag car i would not use it.ive seen what happens when a stock case bellhousing splits on the drag strip at 130,it destroy the car.it was a gm,so weak bell any way. so yhat must be weaker than stock.

Factory Ford 4R100 transmission for a 7.3L diesel 4X4 truck has the bottom of the bell "cut off"
very similar to that.
Maybe not quite as much cut, but very similar.
The C6 diesel trannys also had the same cut.
I wouldn't be afraid to run it.

GM 4L80 and TH400 have "most" of the bottom of the bell wide open.

I have a well known habit of overthinking things. I talked with my buddy who I got it from and he is running one just like it in his 10.00 557" Fox Mustang.

Does the top "backside" of that C6 case have the strengthening ribs on the bell?
