This is a combo my dad just fininshed for his 67 Comet drag car. More details to follow soon!
-
Can't read the dyno sheet; can you post a pic with higher resolution? How did it do?
-
Sorry about that picture thing. I think I got it changed for the better! The combo was a very straight foreward deal. Genesis block, Scat forged crank(4.25) Scat H-Beam rods, Diamond "dome" pistons, BT '428' head castings I cleaned up in the runners, Victor intake "cleaned up", 1050 Dominator, Cam Research Mech roller, Crower 'bushing' lifters, Smith Bros P/Rods, and T&D rockers. There was definitely some HP left on the table, but my old man was getting nervous about the RPM! 738HP 640Trq Could have used a 1150HP Dom and the Super Sucker we had there, but Dad said he was happy and that was enough he said. The headers for the car are Hooker 2 1/8 Prim tubes so I think that should help a little. Had to use the Hooker Galaxie headers for the dyno(1 7/8 Prim)......

Nice motor! What were the cam specs, and do you have flow numbers for the heads?
Post some pics of that car at the track when it gets there; I'm partial to the 66-67 Comets...
-
Thanks for the compliment! The cam specs from memory are 278/282@.050 on a 108*lobe sep. Net lift is .785ish. The heads were purchased 2nd hand and came from Survival originally. Dad never did have them flow checked as we only have one shop in a 250mile radius that can do that and they are always months behind so he did not want to wait around. I went in and blended from the throats all the way to the runner exits on both INT & EXH. Valves used were Ferrea "6000" series. I will get some pics up of the car soon. Its a 202 Sedan. He has been running the car the better part of 20yrs with a "454" Hi Riser head combo with a Jerico. Car was a SOLID 10.50's piece at our local track which is not know for a decent track prep. The car had gone 10.20's at Woodburn(near Portland) a couple of years ago. Looking foreward to the new found HP/TRQ. The old 454 layed down around 620ish on the dyno years back...............

Woodburn eh? So do you live in Oregon, if so whereabouts? Is your local track Coos bay,Medford, or....? Always nice to hear about another FE racing in the NorthWest.

I am here in Medford, and Dad is in Ashland. Champion Raceway is the 'local' track. Do you ever get down this way?

I have only raced at Champion once (it was called Jackson County Sports Park back then.) in the early 90s when I was running NHRA Super Street (10.90 class). Back then I was running a C6 in my Fairmont, and with the heat there, I couldn`t run the index so I entered in Pro Bracket instead, and got down to the last 5 cars. Loved the track, especially the scenic downhill return road, so you could cost back to the pits, but HATED the heat! Fat guys like me just don`t function well at 114 degrees F!! Since its almost 600 miles one way, I doubt I`ll be going there anytime soon. Mission Raceway is 45 minutes from home, and Ashcroft, Pacific (Seattle) and Bremerton are about 3 hours each way, so I don`t even get to Woodburn as often as I`d like.

Rory?? Fairmont?? Automatic??
I think I've finally lost touch with reality :)
That engine looks like a really sweet combo. Nice numbers, and I can understand your Dads concern about the RPMs. Anything over 7000 tends to make your hair stand on end waiting for......that noise.
I'm adding another vote for video and better pictures. ;)

Sorry man, but no vid taken. I don't own one of they 'fancy' phones......I will get some pics up when the eng is in the car and the car hits the track. I wish my old man would have considered ALUM rods like I mentioned to him before he started to by parts. Would have eased my mind about that crank living...................
