Title: Balanced versus unbalanced fuel supply for EFI
Post by: philminotti on June 30, 2013, 03:03:32 PM
Currently I have my fuel supply as shown in the "unbalanced" schematic, with the fuel rails in series.  It worked fine on my test stand which is not a dyno, and as such is unloaded.
For a presumed 550-600hp, should I switch to the balanced or parallel arrangement.  My injection is multiport, sequential.

Thanks
Phil

What is the ID of the fuel rails, and how big is your fuel pump?  You should have no problem running the fuel rails in series if you have decent size fuel lines and a good pump.

I'm running -6 lines from an Aeromotive A1000 pump.  Not sure what the i.d. of the rails is but it's probably about 3/4" IIRC.

Thanks Jay

Hmmmm, #6 is pretty small, Phil.  The pump is fine, and the fuel rails sound like they are fine, but I would consider upgrading to at least #8 lines.  I usually run #10 for an EFI setup.

I run #8 and put a fuel damper on one rail but run in series.

I don't see any reason you need the more complicated design, especially at your power level

Thanks guys.  I've been planning to upgrade to PTFE hose anyway.  The wife is getting a bit tired of the fuel smell in the garage.

Another thing to look at is hard line, I ran hard line from tank to engine compartment in the stock location, then mirrored it on the other side for a return.

If you switch to parallel there'll be no question. I agree that it's probably all right, but you may need more than -6. Do it so there'll no longer be any question. -10 and using a -8 return and there'll not be any basis for 'what if...'
