Title: Track lok steel plates
Post by: 428 GALAXIE on June 10, 2023, 02:59:43 PM
Hi
Bought supposedly lightly used track lok while a ago.
It came already dismantled to me so can't be really sure was there just extra parts or what.
It had a 5 steel tab disc's 4 friction plates and one with a steel with friction on one side.
Seller told me that it came out of strange 9 inch rear wich toasted bearings after few thousand miles(true or not) and while he changed bearings he upgraded to a locker.
So it had one extra steel plate, is this common trick or just mishap.
First I assembled it with all the plates but didn't trust it so made a test bench to measure the breakaway torque but it was more than I could twist and my test bench would hold.

So has anyone seen this before?

Rebuild kits normally come with 4 clutch, 4 steel and 1 steel/clutch

Perhaps is a racing thing ??
