Title: Question on carb price
Post by: GJCAT427 on March 29, 2023, 05:20:03 AM
This may not be the place to ask, I got a friend that purchased a 750 Holley double pumper carb that appears to be NOS, in a bunch of a parts lot. It appears unused and has no box, It has some shelf ware but looks dull. I`m wondering what it might be worth? He said to make a reasonable offer. Any Ideas?

A run of the mill Holley 4779 was never an OEM so you are talking strictly aftermarket sale.  And they made them with abandon.  In other words; it's just a commonly available carburetor that needs a rebuild.  Around $100 or so for a complete carb in good shape.

Here is a link to a new one from Summit. They are $700 and some change new. While i know the one you speak of isnt new if its a good carb that just needs some gaskets replaced i would think $250? I usually get around $150 for a good core , that are usually kind of rough and will need a steam to stern rebuild .

I wish new Holleys looked as good as the picture on Summit.  Every once I've seen in the past few years looks like someone spray painted them with gold spray paint.

Value vs value….

An early 3310 downleg? $125
First issue 1850? $50-$75
C9-U carb? $125-$250
First issue double pumper? $150-$250

None of these carbs are worth much money wise. Usage wise they are pretty excellent.
A fine case of “better value to keep it.”  All of them are fantastic runners. No tricks needed, just set them as designed and they will do fine.

The double pumper in question?
With no real info, if I needed one? $250-$350
If I didn’t? $100

750 DPs are common like dirt - $100 is decent, you'll put $40~50 in parts in it just to get it fresh and able to test on a motor. Considering cost new, yea - if he came back at $150 that's not bad either.  NOTE - I just bought a new - brand new, plated, aluminum, pretty - 650 race DP at the Summit overstock outlet in Arlington - $260

The outlet store is FULL of items.  Headers, suspension parts, brakes - you name it.  Passed on a $1200 dual carb Holley injections setup.

One of my old Summit catalogs has the 4779 listed at $434.99 back in 2010.  I have one from around 1995 new in a box.  Dyno time only.  If I remember correctly it was just a tad over $300 at the time.  Joe-JDC

The 650DP on my Falcon was a swap meet part, $40 in 1998.  Replaced the base plate and have run it on about everything at one time or another.  It's likely had over $100 in gaskets and accel pump diaphragms over the years LOL.
