Ever since I got this car together the manual r/p steering has been really hard to turn. I even replaced the rack & pinion once thinking there was something wrong with it but it didn't help. It was hard enough I could not keep up with my little drag-n-drive trailer when I was backing up. So power steering was the next option. However, I didn't really have room anymore to put a hydraulic power steering pump on the motor and putting a power rack and pinion was going to pose clearance problems too. So I started looking into electric power steering. There are ready to go kits out there for around $1500+ but I am too cheap for that. Another option was to graft an OEM EPS unit in to my car. A good friend of mine did that on his '67 F250 4x4 with good results so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I ended up using the EPS from a 2009 Toyota Corolla. I chose it because it did not require any external feedback to operate. When it loses it's signal from the CAN bus it goes into a "fail-safe" mode that feels much like early OEM hydraulic power steering. So for about $400 I now have power steering in my race car. 8)

I know some one who did this in a early Mustang as well.They used Toyota Prius stuff..I am thinking of doing it to my 67 T/A replica..A pump and hoses will just look wrong under the hood..

A local guy has done that on at least two different 63 Falcons and with manual tranny so there is a clutch pedal to clear. One cool thing is the power steering still works with the engine not running. Doesn't sound like a big deal but I know a guy who crashed a Buick Grand National when the engine stalled. With 275 front tires and go cart steering ratio he could only turn a couple degrees and the brake booster runs off the PS pump... pedal was like pushing a concrete wall.

There is a guy on this forum who has a long thread running on i believe his 67 mustang.He put a EPAS steering kit in his car.Pretty sure it was a 3 pedal car..Yes it will be tight....
