What do you guys think of the J&L oil separator? They say it catches oil before it gets caked on the intake valves.
I've seen some newer 5.0 mustangs where it caught quite a bit.
Is it a good thing or does the engine use that oil to lubricate the valves?
They are very popular.

Unless your crankcase ventilation is sucking a lot of oil, I wouldn't think you'd need a catch can with carburetors or port injection. If you're seeing build up on your valve stems, you're likely sucking enough oil to overwhelm any catch can.
With direct injection (like my wife's volkswagen diesel) I installed an aftermarket catch can. Before I did that, the inter cooler was acting like a "catch can".

I bought a $29 (includes delivery) can from E-Bay. Even has a dipstick so one doesn't need to unscrew the lower cup. Not installed yet but I can give feedback soon.
