i recently bought my papaws old truck back-73 f250,360 2bbl, 4 speed.i cleaned the gas tank,new sending unit,new fuel pump,kit in carb and a new clear fuel filter.heres the problem,everything seems to be working,filter filled with fuel,plenty of pressure,BUT,if you fill the carb bowl with fuel and a little down the carb it runs for about a minute and dies like its out of fuel?

Is fuel getting in carb sounds like stopped up where the line goes to carb or float stuck closed

Does it have dual tanks? in 73 the dual tanks were manually switched by a valve on the floor and the dash switch was only for the gauge. I've found a lot of times guys had the valve on the wrong tank and didn't realize it. I may have done that once.......

single tank,i took it off and cleaned it.fuel filter is 1 foot from carb and its full of fuel

I would fill up the carb bowl and then disconnect the fuel line and put it into a coffee can or jar or something and start it up and see how much gas flows. Obviously be careful. Make sure what you are using can't fall over, only run for a few seconds, etc. If gas flows into the jar okay, you know it's something with the carb, like the float or needle.

the filter fills instantly when you crank it.it has plenty of pressure because gas was squirting everywhere till i tightened the clamps

got it, the screw in filter that screws into the front of the 2bbl carb was plugged.i had blew through it when i rebuilt the carb and it seemed ok fires right up and runs good now.THANKS

this old 360 is one of the fastest starting FEs i've had.i had a cougar with a 289 that was a fast starter.i used to bet 20 dollars to some of the gm guys that my car would start quicker than theres would.i never lost.i also have a 87 2.9 ranger that starts fast in any weather

I've had old Fords that would start in what seemed like 1/4 revolution of the crankshaft!
You just barely touched the key to the "start" position and it was running.

Yep! Once warmed up or hot, one touch would start the engine.

The Falcon back when it was pretty much original with the 289 and 3 speed. I'd tune it once in a while, set the points, clean and adjust the 4100. Touch the key, maybe once turn and it'd light right off.
