Title: popping exhaust
Post by: Saltshaker on August 07, 2022, 08:22:39 AM
I have a random popping in my exhaust on the right side. This is in a 427 Cobra with side pipes , the pop is random and happens while driving or idling not while accelerating or the decelerating. I’ve tightened all the bolts on the headers and the slip on side pipes have bolts holding them together any suggestions I don’t see any strike marks from the exhaust.

Since it does it while idling, can you watch it idle at night and see if you see any flashes?  Might have to drive somewhere dark depending on where you live...

I'd be guessing that it's a lean condition, either overall or in one particular cylinder.  Carb issue, vacuum leak in one cylinder, etc.

try checking for corrosion inside your distributor cap. That was a problem on mine.
