Title: "speed up browsing by disabling add-ons", IE7 What does this do?

When I log on I get this in a small rectangular box on the bottom of page: "speed up browsing by disabling add-ons",  . I checked on web and am confident it is a genuine Microsoft item. Can't really understand what are add-ons and what this feature does.
