I was lucky enough to get invited to a special event last Saturday night
-
Three very famous cars that were on loan- genuine articles, not replicas
-
The J-car is a replica, the rest are real- and I took pics of some of them at the Glen in the mid 60s- like the Essex Wire car. That tiny is Lotus 19 is Dan Gurney's old "Rabbit" that was used to bait the opposition into a pace that would break them. 98 is the original Dave McDonald King Cobra. The Gimble's two Cobras that did a lot of vintage racing thrown in
-
Aaron Shelby speaking, my little buddy "The Aimer" and Jere being interviewed, a couple replicas from the movie, including the Cobra with the dented truck and broken windshield, and the prototype GT500KR, which the Ford/ Shelby rep said was the fastest car he had ever been in, and would whup anything in the room- pretty bold statement
-
THAT would be a thing to attend. Terrific opportunity. I had a bunch of "Ford J" cars in my slot car travel box as a kid, nice to finally see a picture of a real one.

It's an angry looking little beast, likely born with a chip on its shoulder harness.

You just jogged my memory- Aurora HO cars- I also had a J-car, a couple Cobras, Chaparral, XKE etc. Still have a few, like the big International tow truck

I was able to watch Dave McDonald race, before he was killed at Indy (never got to meet him), in the early 60's, when he raced Chevy's.
Shelby showed him the light, with the Cobra's a Cooper King Cobra as seen above.
Here is what I first noticed him driving, built by Max Balchowsky (Old Yeller) and owned by a Chevy dealer (he race B production Corvettes with that dealer before that).

Wow, he's driving from the back seat of that Corvette.
Where was that cool event Gene?
