I am getting ready to push the 63 into the shop and went and inspected the car real close yesterday.
I noticed the rear housing looked bent on both sides.
Being as it was a former race car I am not surprised.
It was slight but I don't want to put a new third member in it to have to tear it down again.
Looking for a good 9 inch housing close to Okla [ I can pick up] that will fit a 63 Galaxie or a cheap [as I am a born miser] aftermarket housing.
I have checked out Moser, Currie and Speedway so far.
Any suggestions appricated [sp?].

Greg I needed a 9" housing also .I went with strange .The pricing was fair $665 and after I gave them my measurements and installed it .It fit perfectly .But shipping is a bummer .The shipping costs were half the cost of the housing .But I am happy with it .They are hard to get on the phone just be patient .Doug

Currie, Quick, Strange - any of those would be good sources. You'll get a good solid piece that's ready to bolt in and run. I've done same with Peyton Performance and Currie. I think Peyton has retired, he had a big shop down in Waxahachie S of Dallas.

I looked at the strange housing but when I went back to their site I could not find it and the shipping charge is kind of tough to handle. That is why i was looking for one close by I could pick up.
I have to feed aninmals in the morning and evening and have nobody to do it when I am gone so I need something within an 8 hour round trip.
I would give the guy in Texas a call but if he is out of business it won't do me any good but he is within my 8 hour driving distance.
I sent an e mail to Quick asking about the shipping charge and cost for a housing so I guess I will wait and see what they say.

I sent Rhodes an e mail.
Went to Peyton site and they didn't have what I need. They did have a small bearing housing but it was to short.
They do have some good prices on new Strange carrier housing's.

I ordered the Rhodes Housing from Jegs or Summitt, can't remember which one. Have not done anything with it yet, it is sitting under the car on jack stands

It's not hard to straighten it yourself. I made a 9"x48" straight edge out of 1/8 steel one side has the center housing area cut out the other is straight for holding against the bolt surface. There is how to youtube videos on this. Yes a simple straight edge will give you thousands of trouble free miles. Only need the bar thru center and bushings if your building a housing from scratch. All housing from back in the day are bent especially trucks, and I've seen them go thousands of miles being bent. Roads were a lot worse back then. Mike

That is my last option. I have strightened them before with not to many problems but there is quit a bit of rewelding I will have to do on it and cut off some bracket's that were welded on over the years.
I thought that for around $700.00 I would just get a new one with the support's all ready on it but was not ready for the shipping charges.

Any competent chassis shop should be able to do this. It might just involve cutting off the ends and reattaching squared up with the pumpkin. Or completely cutting off the tubes and reattaching so the ends are in line with the pumpkin. They would have to see it.

I called 2 shops in Oklahoma city and one in Witcha Falls Texas and they all said it wold be $450+ and there wold be a 3 or 4 month wait before they could get it out.
I think for the extra $150.00 I would rather go new and get a stronger unit.
