Ever herd of a holman moody drag boat intake for 4 holley carbs !

Just before Ford switched for good to the Boss 429 engine in NASCAR (and after FE's were allowed to run dual four barrels against the Hemi's), a number of two part, box-top intakes were used on short tracks. In fact, there may have only been 2-3 base designs made but the tops were easily replaced with a sheetmetal tops that could accommodate any number of carbs including the rare in-line 4V Autolite carb that all sanctioning bodies back then refused to allow Ford's teams (NASCAR and the Trans-Am Boss 302's) to run.
Here is a look at another style of box intake some FE's ran. Note this is not a FE intake but a similar design for the still-born Tunnel Port Windsor engine, superceded in very late '68 by the Boss 302 design.

Surprisingly, no pic of this intake for the FE seems to be available anywhere on the 'Net. Perhaps someone else here has one and can post it.

When did Ford finally switch to the Boss 429 from the 427 FE? As I recall, it took a long time to depose the old rough, tough, race-proven 427 and a lot longer than was anticipated.

Many Ford teams as I remember still ran the 427 FE until late in the season only (or primarily) at short tracks and dirt (yes, dirt!) tracks. But IIRC Ford put their foot down late in '69 and told all teams it was the new Boss 429 or zippo for further factory support.

blowing to think about 16 barrels feeding a V8 motor. Would be interesting to see how much vacuum would be possible at WOT. The classic of dual 1050 Dominators on Boss 302 Trans Am race engines in 69 could not have been all that much different

Nah, those are centrifugal superchargers. With two superchargers, it doesn't much matter if the engine can actually use the four carbs or not....it's called FORCED FEEDING ;)
