Title: Jay- question on UM 6500
Post by: GJCAT427 on January 07, 2022, 06:24:20 AM
I`m pulling the trigger on getting a checker, where can you buy the calibration bar? All of the units I've looked at don't have them.

On the UM 6500, and most of the similar testers I’ve seen, the calibration area is built into the unit. I circled the spot used for the calibration on this picture of a UM 6500 from the Internet. It’s this coin sized metallic spot on the front of the unit.

Kevin is correct.  The other thing you can do is to calibrate it on a portion of what you are testing.  For example, just use a caliper to measure the china wall on a block, and compare that to what the sonic checker tells you.  You can also do it on the areas between the bores.  I like checking it on the actual piece because the calibration standard built into the checker uses a different material than the cast iron we normally use, so the setup on the sonic checker is different.
