I'm thinking of running a solid cam, either flat tappet or roller, in my upcoming 445, and am wondering if I need to modify the block in any way. Steve Christ's excellent book on rebuilding FE's says "you MUST modify the oil galleys" if you want to use solids, but at other forums I've heard that no mods are necessary.
Opinions?

The modifications that everyone talks about are blocking the oil passages to the lifters. Pressurized oil is not required for solid lifters. It won't hurt any though, either, I've been running solids that way for many years. I'd just drop them in and run them.
