Title: Comp Cams Rocker arms
Post by: Old Blue 67 on September 12, 2021, 08:46:39 PM
Are the blue comp rocker arms any good? Picked up a pair at Charlotte Auto Fair at a really good price, they need some work and one rocker arm. Could'nt find anything on the Comp website. TIA, Calvin

I ran them for a long time on my 390 with .595 lift and 350 open pressure. Never had and issue. I tried running them on my new motor with Blairs baby roller cam .525lift and 550 open pressure and while I had no failures they flexed enough to lose about .030 lift when the valve was fully open. I put the Comps on the shelf for a milder build and bought T&D's. Jim

Comp rocker arms were made by Jim Dove. In fact, he made most of the aluminum rocker arms, no matter whose name was on the box. He had a heavy duty set-up available that he sold under his own name. They included end stands that tied into special head bolts for stability. The last time I talked to Ray Paquet, his attitude was to install the HD set-up and then forget it. They were his ultimate answer. (That's been several years ago, so I have no idea if the forgoing is true now.)

I have run the HD setup with end stands on a .626 lift, 256/266 @ .050 flat tappet cam for close to 30 years, it has been bullet proof. I don't race any more, but I go for many years without checking lash because every time I check nothing ever needs adjusted.

Just my experience, fwiw

I got in touch with Comp Cams and this blue rocker assembly is no longer available. They did tell me that Dove was the manufacturer so hopefully they can help with the parts that are missing. I though I would ask here to see if you guys had any rockers, snap rings or shims from one of these assemblies you would part with. TIA, Calvin

Dove is out of business, no matter what you may have heard otherwise.  If you need parts, best to advertise for them in the classifieds - Jay
