Dodged another bullet. I needed to get some gas for the Mustang today before heading to the track and I got some in gas cans. As a precaution I shined my flashlight in the tank just to see if anything was in there. Well I found all these rubber strips. It looks like they came from the sealing ring for the filler. There were enough of these jammed into the fuel outlet that I heard gurgling noises when I pulled them out. Now I get to pull my filters and maybe my pump to check for debris. I guess better here than at the track or on the road.
The last picture is some of the big chunks that were in the pre-filter.

I almost thought this was about a '68 Charger and a green '68 Mustang fastback. Good catch. Goes to show you that there is always something out to get ya.

And a quarter too! ;D Ever see the mess the fuel cell foam makes when you use pump gas?

You just built the car! Was it a used tank? I certainly wouldn't think that stuff would deteriorate within a couple years of you building it, would it? How did it not leak with the seal gone?

It was a new tank and just a couple of years old. The outer edge still sealed I guess. Only the part that hung over the lip of the tank was eaten away. I'm just glad I caught it while I was at home. I took it to the track last night and it didn't really make a difference in how it ran though. So much for me spending all that extra time and expense running big lines and making sure there were no sharp bends or sharp 90 deg fittings. ::)

Glad you caught it now. Well how did she run at the track are you going to run a drag strip thread

We had a little better than the week before so after swapping slicks I ran a 11.15@121 mph. My quickest yet. I am foot braking it and was having real trouble holding it on the line so I was leaving a pretty an idle... maybe 1500 rpm. No drag strip thread since I am no longer running an Fe motor. It just wouldn't be right.

Well Fe or not it’s a beauty.
