Title: Valves, Springs, Locks & Retainers For Coon SOHC Heads............

I am very close to buying a set of CNC ported, Bill Coon cylinder heads from Keith Craft. I was hoping somebody could tell me the part number of the Manley valves and Comp Cams springs that seem popular for these heads? Also does anybody have any recommendation of what valve spring retainers and locks to use with these heads?

Also Jay, could you please email me the list of Comp Cams camshafts that they produce for SOHC engines? My email is: barta55@hotmail.com

The heads are going on the usual 482" combo.

Bart, the Manley valves I used are their custom valves; you have to special order them from Manley.  There is an order form in the Manley catalog to order the custom valves with.  The specs I used are as follows:

Intake - Valve blank part number 11220-8, Overall length 5.625", tip length .300", head diameter 2.300", seat width .080", seat angle 45 degrees, margin .050", edge break .010", stem diameter .3415".

Exhaust - Valve blank part number 11221-8, overall length 5.55", tip length .300", head diameter 1.900", seat width .100", seat angle 45 degrees, margin .080", edge break .010" stem diameter .3415".

The lengths are kind of odd, but they worked in my engine.  FYI I sized these valves to work with lash caps, and if I recall correctly they may be required with these valves; you will have to check the Manley catalog to be sure.  If you won't be using lash caps, you can increase the length of the valves by the lash cap thickness.

For springs I used Comp 943 springs, and the matching titanium retainers.  Bill Conley ran this setup with the T&D steel rocker arms on his spintron and it went past 8000 RPM before he saw any evidence of valve float.
