Hi Everyone,
I currently have a 351W/393 stroker in my 66 Fairlane. It was built in 2003 by Keith Kraft, it showed 376 HP on a chassis dynamometer, so I figure it's probably about 450 HP at the flywheel. It's got about 60,000 miles on it currently, and it's starting to show it's age. I'd like to rebuild it some time in the future, and I'm looking for some advice. The block is a Ford Motorsports M-6010-N351 block, it has AFR 205 heads, a Comp roller cam, XR288RF, and an Edelbrock RPM air gap intake. What I'd like to do is to keep those major components, but put a 427 or 455 Scat stroker kit in it. Does this sound reasonable, or should I be looking to change something if I go to the bigger displacement? Also, what would be realistic HP and torque numbers with the existing parts? Anytime you increase displacement, the camshaft should be changed, as you need more duration to fill the larger volume in the cylinders.
I'd skip the 4" stroke altogether and use a 4.100" or 4.250" stroke. Just be prepared to do some grinding on the block, especially with the 4.250". The heads and intake will support the larger displacement.

Were the ARF heads as cast, or CNC ported? Did they do a gasket match on the RPM Air Gap? Compression ratio? CNC'd heads, or ported heads, and ported RPM AG should net you much more than 450hp with 393 cubic inches, in my opinion. What is your intended goal for the Fairlane? That will determine how much you need to change the combination. Joe-JDC

I bought the car like 4-5 years ago, the engine had been built by the previous owner. The heads are AFR 205s, CHC street ported, 58cc. combustion chamber. The pistons are JE, 4.030, dish, no further info. The P.O. said the compression was 10:1. I don't know if the intake was port matched to the heads. I guessed the 450 hp, based on the 376 rear wheel hp. Usage will be street, although I may take it to the track once, just to see what it'll do. I have no plans on racing it on a regular basis, the most would be a test and tune day in the spring. What I'm looking for is something that is reliable, strong on the bottom end and mid-range, with an RPM limit of 6000RPM. I was thinking that with 427-455 CID, I should be able to get 550-ish horsepower, and meets what I'm looking for as far as goals.

Had my 427W on a chassis dyno several years ago and got these numbers. Perfect for street/strip with a 3.50 gear and TKO 5 spd.

Last 460ci Windsor I did with AFR 225cc heads, 10.3:1 compression, mild hydraulic roller, and a Victor Jr. intake made 611 hp @ 5800.

My setup was built on the Dart block with 4.125 bore and 4 inch stroke and still running great after 11 years. Cam is a mild 241/249 hyd roller with .600 lift.

The 408 Windsor I pulled out to put an fe in, ran very well. Knock off ebay heads, flat tappet 10:1, rpm air gap. Nothing special Truthfully it was a disaster on paper, not much cylinder pressure, big intake runners, no manifold vacuum, huge overlap/duration. Ran 12.30 with hiway gears, never saw the track once the 4.56’s went in.
