Title: Exhaust Cut Outs
Post by: gregaba on June 19, 2021, 12:22:35 PM
Looking to buy a pair of exhaust cut outs.
What I was wandering what everyone else is useing.
I am looking at the Dougs cut outs because they are the gullitine [sp?] style.
What is the most reliable and has the least amount of problems.

I've used the Quicktime Performance electric cutouts with good results.  They seemed to seal up pretty well when closed, and were reliable as long as I was running them.

Doug's cutouts seem to be a lot taller than some of the others which might affect your ground clearance.  Looking at Summit's website, they do not have as good of reviews either and there are comments regarding plastic gearing inside the mechanism.  Quick Time seem to have better reviews.

Have the QTP units on a couple cars here. No problems with them after five years of use. They are butterfly style.

Looks like it will be the quick time.
All the exhaust shops around here said to stay away from the butterfly style because if you had a backfire it would blow out that style.
That is why I was looking at Dougs.
Judgeing from the forum members experience that is not a problem.
Thanks for responding.

Ok, since this came up.

I'm just curious as to which design cut out works the best "flow wise".  Some look to just be a controlled exhaust leak more then anything else.  Just a 2" hole off to the side?  I could only see if the actual cut out was INLINE with the pipe would it actually do something performance wise.  The ones that shoot out the side?  Just don't think they are doing anything.

I have all ways run directly out the headers untill I bought my 2013 Boss 302.
I drove it a while untill I finally got the MT-82 tranny to where I could power shift it.
The Boss had the exhaust side cut outs with a plate with a tiny hole [1/4 inch?] you could unplug and run. I just removed the plate all together and ran the exhaust stright out the side pipes. They exit under the doors.
It made a noticeable difference in seat of the pants feel and the car seemed faster. I did not take it to the strip and run it with and without the plate to see what the real difference was, mainly because it is a 180 mile round trip to the strip.
May be someone can post who has made a compersion and let us know. I would like to know myself.
