I am needing a new fuel pump for my 390. What would you guys suggest. I can get one at the local parts store for around 25 bucks. Or should I go with a holley or something similar
-
Are you just looking for a stock replacement pump for a stock 390,if so whichever chain store has the best warranty. If your looking for a performance type pump, both the Carter and Holley pumps are both rebuildable, just make sure whichever one you pick has the proper pressure rating unless you plan to run a pressure regulator.

What about edelbrock. I found one that has a max pressure of 6 psi which is just right for my edelbrock carb.

Edelbrock is a very good pump, but you'll need to do some line work. If its 400-ish HP or less, I would buy a stock replacement and just bolt it on. Cheaper and no fuss
-
I have a knock off on there now that looks like the edelbrock so I think my lines will hook right up
-
I had an edelbrock maybe 525 horse and it was good for about 4 years , I was having a problem and I changed it because I thought it might be the problem. It wasnt but I ended up going electric. I would recommend the Edelbrock. You don’t need a regulator it just bolts up and go.

I keep forgetting Edelbrock has fuel pumps too.You would think that they tailor them to work with their carbs so that probably would be the best choice.

i put a mech. carter fuel pump on my 390 back in the late 80s,still works fine on a 400hp 390.never caused any problems, starving or too much-little pressure.best mech i know of.

Like most men I clocked my new fuel pump installed it then read the instructions. It said I needed to push the pump arm down before tightening the screws. I loosened the screws turned the bottom of the pump where I wanted it then tightened it down. The engine runs fine with a steady 6 psi pressure. Do I need to remove the pump and do like the instructions said or am I good

Let it go. Have fun
