Title: DragWeek 2021
Post by: AlanCasida on April 29, 2021, 07:28:29 PM
I finally got an email from Hot Rod that Drag Week is on and since I registered last year I am eligible for an early invite to register this year. However I have already signed up for RaceWeek 2.0 2021 in September so I guess my spot will be up for grabs.

Ricky.

I’d have to go back and look though the statistics sheet that was put together a few years ago, but 20 sec + vehicles aren’t uncommon, there’s usually one or two every year. A 20 second recorded time is what they give you as long as you can stage the car, and there have been a few that haven’t been able to make that on a full pass, but opt to take their actual ET instead. I’ve said before, don’t worry how slow your car is, someone will be slower.

I ran 18s in the '65 Galaxie. In my defense, the Autolite carb was running pig rich and the car was shifting into 3rd right after the 60' mark, so it was a dog. It was a mad rush to get the car ready, which it obviously wasn't..lol Still made the trip from Ohio to Georgia, and back, without a hitch though.

Oh, and I wasn't the slowest car there..lol  ;D

In 2019 a guy raced(?) a 1919 Franklin and ran in the low 28s.

LOL, I'll bet its just like the freeway - no matter how slow you are running with a trailer on a 75 MPH road, you're going to have to pass some people.  There are still semis running under 65 LOL, dammit.

This made me laugh....because it is true.
Not just semis running slow though. The Toyota Prius seems to have a built in governor limiting its speed to 15mph under whatever the posted limit is....and the political bumper stickers seem to have a similar slowing effect on whichever Subaru they are affixed to.

You must be referring to the ones I pass in my mustang and push the clutch down so I get a 6500 rpm rev on the way by and a middle finger to go along with it?

Joe, you must have been away from the forum at that time. I had a fairly long thread about the thrash to get the car ready. The carb was messed up on WOT, dumping fuel in, which I never even had the chance to check, and in the rush I forgot to put on the trans kickdown lever before I left. It wasn't even a dog, more like a pig..lol Still, it managed an easy 17-18 mpg and never missed a beat on the 1500 mile trip down and back, even through the mountains.
