What is the biggest tire wheel combo you can get under a stock 66 Fairlane rear.

I had a 275 60 15 comfortably.  A 28x11.50 street tire. The 295 65 15 rubs in about 4 places when I hit a bump.

All on a 15x8 wheel.

Do you know the backspace?

A 15x8 wheel on a 66 Fairlane needs 4-3/4" backspacing with drum brakes.  Disc brakes are a bit thicker on the hat and will be a 5" backspacing to center between the spring and the wheel lip.

Back in the mid 70s, I had a 6 Fairlane GTA 2 door hardtop. I had L60-15s (about 275/60 15 with the metric tire designations) on MoPar Road Runner ralley wheels, which I believe were 7" wide. At the track, I had 9x28 1/2-15 Firestone Drag 500 slicks, on the same wheels. I seem to recall that I had to bend the outer tab down on the brackets that mount the rubber bump stops about the axle tubes. I may have had to roll the outer wheel well lips, but after 45 years, I can`t say for certain.
