66 Falcon Sport Coupe
« on: August 05, 2018, 04:32:36 PM »
Came across a 66 Falcon today that kind of perked my interest. Had never seen a Sports Coupe before, don't know whether it does anything for me or not. Pretty solid car with minimal rust, been parked for 19 years. Built 302(details unknown) aluminum intake, with some racy shifter on a c-4 I would imagine. Kind of a neat car, any desireability? Ballpark worth?

bucket seats , nice interior , ok body style , not worth as much as 65 and early , did not seem to every catch on . I think that they are good cars , 66 -67 fairlane front clip , fenders and hood will bolt on to them .

I seem to be one of the few that like the 66-69 Falcons, more so the 66-67 round tailight models. Kinda look like the very popular 68-72 Chevy Novas, but for whatever the reasons, not the same following. Nice thing is a FE bolts right in using 66-69 Fairlane mounts, headers etc, as they are the same platform.
1978 Fairmont,FE 427 with 428 crank, 4 speed Jerico best of 9.972@132.54MPH 1.29 60 foot
1985 Mustang HB 331 SB Ford, 4 speed Jerico, best of 10.29@128 MPH 1.40 60 foot.
1974 F350 race car hauler 390 NP435 4 speed
1959 Ford Meteor 2 dr sedan. 428 Cobra Jet, 4 speed Toploader. 12.54@ 108 MPH

Missed this somehow.  I like mine, but in most cases they are worth more in parts.  The 62-65 have a lot of aftermarket support.  66 up, not so much.  They do share some parts with the Fairlanes.

I have a '67 2dr coupe, as well as 2 '65's, I prefer the looks of the '65's, but they have the narrow engine compartment, header fit is a royal PITA, and anything wider than a 351w, you really need to notch the towers. The '66 up body style is really a lighter, short wheelbase Fairlane, even Fairlane 2 door sedan glass fits the falcon. I am putting a 351C/aod combo in my '67.
I agree with falcon67 on the value, my car is a second owner, ( my grandmother bought it new from West Coast Ford in Maple Ridge) 32,000 mile car, I tried to sell it a couple years back, I was asking around 5k, would have sold it for 4k, guys were offering $1500. I have 8 cars, but I thought "if that's all I can get for it, screw it, I'll put my Cleveland in it and keep it!"

Should also mention, years ago I had a buddy that had a '66 sport coupe with a factory 289 2bbl four speed combo. Only '66-'69 falcon I ever saw with a factory 4 speed.

That's interesting. My buddy's 4 speed car was sold new by West Coast Motors in Maple Ridge, which, as you will know, is the next town over from Mission. Odds are good they also originally sold the car you saw.
427Fastback, is your trans-am style 67 Blue? You are in the whonnock area? Think I bought some 351 Cleveland parts from you about a year ago?

There were several modified  '66-'69 falcons in Maple Ridge in the early-mid seventies when I was growing up, Barry Wasyluk had a yellow one, Rob Rutter had a red one with a Boss 302 and 4.56s, another guy had a red '69 with a 460 in it. Barry's brother Dave had a blue '66 ranchero with a 289 and a 4 speed as well.

A sort of falcon story, Cory and Rory will probably at least know where I am talking about. In the early eighties, I was down at Neaves Rd. by the silver bridge (popular Maple Ridge street racing spot) with a buddy of mine that had a '70 Sport Satellite, 383with a Torker, 780, hemi cam, 2800 stall hemi converter and 3.91's, probably a mid 13 second street car, typical for the early eighties.
This really rough looking '66 Ranchero with the back window smashed out rolls up and parks, but it sounds pretty good and its a stick car. An older guy in his mid to late thirties gets out and starts fishing around for a race. He approaches my buddy, and they start bantering back and forth, I quietly tell my buddy to watch himself, I have a feeling this car might be quicker than it looks, but he blows me off. They agree to go for $25, and agree that I will hold the $50. So they stage and leave, the Ranchero spins a little, and my buddy is out first by maybe half a car, doesn't last long, and I can tell by the taillights, the ranchero is a good car length out on him by half track, a few seconds later, the brakelights go on, and the flashlight lights up in the Rancheros lane. A few minutes later, the guy in the Ranchero pulls up to me, rolls the drivers side window down a bit, I give him the $50, and he leaves. My buddy comes back, I get in the passenger side, and say "I won't say I told you so..." it was a quiet ride back to town... ;D I found out a few days later it had a pretty healthy 390 in it with 4.11s.
