You can get quite a bit thinner in "small areas" on N/A applications.
I've seen .130 at the point - I've always heard guidance of .160-.170.
Problem is that small areas can become big areas if they open up from a bad tune or...way better to be safe.

I have seen water migration across the deck with Cometic gaskets a few times.  The emboss bead around some of the coolant/oil passages does not completely go around the opening in some blocks - leaving a portion of the bead overhanging the opening.  Another thing to check....

I run my pair with one switched along with the electric water pump and the other on a temperature switch in the thermostat location.  Since going to the Spal stuff many years ago after seeing them used by the street rod community I have only had the second fan come on a few times.

Should check this out as well. Soft start and can use for AC. My brother runs one and loves it. Only runs as much fan as you need.

Don't know if the product is good - - but spell check could help out a lot on that site

x2 on the Spal.
Best fan on the market.
Electric fans are pretty good at low engine speed situations.

Take a look at the welds around the mounting insets.  Gonna be a treat getting a fastener to snug down square against that...

I suspect that is the same offshore part sold by PRW.  I used a couple when Edelbrock was out of stock for an extended period.  It fit OK, but leaked in service.

I have the Moroso ones on my personal engine.  They work and fit well.

I purchased a set of the offshore ones and ended up sending them back.
They don't even fit the box they ship them in...

Air purge is the best bet.  Actually an accepted "cure" for start up rattles in BBC applications many years ago.   They suggested drilling a very small hole in the lifter galley end plug.  Never tried it or even looked - but I wonder if that jiggle pin would "seal up" once a solid slug of oil was hitting it instead of just air.  That might explain the complication of having a jiggle pin instead of just a hole....

I have seen and measured a +/-4% difference in peak power going from 9.8:1 and 10.8:1 - that's roughly 20 or 25 horsepower in a 445.

Sorry, Barry, you're not allowed to make estimations/approximations here.  The resident armchair engine builder will flay you.

And I am supposed to care?

If folks want an opinion - - just stop fixating on DCR.

It's sometimes useful to keep you out of trouble if your combination is "way off in the weeds" somewhere.

But it's damn near useless for determining real world fuel tolerance.  It does nothing - nothing - to account for the variables in combustion chamber configuration, piston dome contours, intake port and manifold configuration and charge/flow efficiency, exhaust port and system efficiency, fuel chemistry, fuel charge cooling effects, or a host of other things.  Your 13:1 engine is gonna be a 13:1 engine at peak torque even with a cam oversized enough to murder power below torque peak.  And it'll rattle on junk fuel at an RPM where you won't hear it until the parts bounce off the pan.

90% of the folks reading this should dedicate time to good process, solid parts selection, and comparatively conservative compression choices - and not fixate on optimizing an arbitrary formula trying to find an unquantifiable 1% improvement.  I have seen and measured a +/-4% difference in peak power going from 9.8:1 and 10.8:1 - that's roughly 20 or 25 horsepower in a 445.  Does anybody honestly think that pushing it to 11.1 or some other arbitrary value to gain DCR would be worth the sacrifice or risk in a street cruiser where 98% of it's life will be at part throttle?

I have wanted to do one for a long time, using one of Jay's adapters.
See his comments above....

As an extra tip - we made a deal out of an FE oil filter adapter and run the solvent through an FL-1A oil filter.. Change the filter when flow slows down.  Makes the solvent last a lot longer.
