Just curious if anyone has any experience with Crites' headers?
Saw them listed on their site.
Checked Jay's book and didn't see anything one them.
Wondering about ground clearance and if they will support 600 +HP?
Appreciate any info.
Thanks

Guy in our group has a set on his 65 comet with a 428. Very nice set of headers, thick flange with 2" tubes. I would think they would support 600 easily. Ground clearance is good on his car.

A local guy brought over a set when I was doing my exhaust testing to run on the dyno, but the headers hung down so low that they wouldn't even fit on my dyno! His were for a Fairlane, I think. They looked like nice headers, but my impression was that ground clearance wouldn't be very good with those headers.

Just looking at them on their site they looked like they would hang down quite low.
I will probably just go ahead with the REF headers. heard nothing but good things about
them.
Thanks guys

We have a set on our 63 Galaxie and they are great. Yes, they do hang down quite a bit, but the fit and finish it good, and our car sits fairly high in the front anyways.

I have Crites headers. I don't know what vehicle you have, but mine are in a '67 Cougar. They do hang low. I bought taller front tires because of that. They are slip-fit with separate tubes for each cylinder. 2" primaries and 3-1/2" collectors.
They are very unequal length. I don't know if that's a bad thing necessarily. I don't have 600 hp, but I probably have 540-545 hp and I don't think the headers are a limiting factor at all.
I like mine. They were reasonably priced and make great power. I had mine ceramic coated.

Paulie I have a 66 Fairlane and it sits kind of low and I would like to keep it that way.
need all the ground clearance I can get.
Appreciate your input.

They hang down lower than the Hookers.
And Hookers aren't that great either.
What kind of budget, because that company REF makes some nice ones but I would have to rob a bank to get them.

I believe the FPA headers are the ground clearance kings. Not sure they'd be the best choice for a 600 hp engine though.

Not trying to change the subject but I still love the Doug's 428CJ headers, Big, Beefy, and bad ass. Can't wait to get a set. I have seen the Crites used on FE trucks, can't attest to performance but they look like low end toque with those long primaries.

If you mean the D627's.
They don't fit on a Fairlane/Comet.
-
They do with tower modifications according to the fitment listing. Besides my 66 comet is no where near stock anyhow as I am adding a rack, modified k member, frame with boxed rails with cross bracing. Also full 8 point cage, an aluminum removable core support. The front suspension is a modified version of stock with adjustable links and roller upper mounts. But anyhow this is way OT for this thread.

I've been droolin over the d627's too. Everyone says they sound so nasty but no one has dynoed them to my knowledge. I don't know if they would be an improvement over my 2 1/8 " heddmans. P.s. sorry for the hyjack ;D

Crites has been stringing a friend along with endless stories. I would not order from them.
Mad Dog makes a low slung set for Galaxies.

Mad dog is a good guy I spoke with him on another project.
